Digestion: Previous Year Questions with Solutions

PYQs are the single most reliable revision tool for Digestion. NEET and CBSE recycle patterns — not exact wording, but exact ideas — so solving the last ten years gets you most of the way there.

PYQ 1 — NEET 2023 Style

Which of the following statements about digestion is correct?

NEET stems often include a qualifier like “except” or “not” — miss it and you lose the mark. Underline the qualifier before looking at options.

Standard NEET MCQs have two clearly wrong options, one tempting distractor, and the right answer. Kill the obvious wrongs first.

The distractor usually differs in one word — a number, a direction, or a definition. That word is the trap.

The correct option is the one that matches NCERT’s exact wording. When in doubt on Digestion, default to NCERT phrasing.

PYQ 2 — CBSE Board 2022

Explain a key process in digestion with a labelled diagram. (5 marks)

Intro (1 line) + diagram (labelled, 5+ parts) + process steps (numbered) + conclusion (1 line). That’s the 5-mark formula.

Spend 6–7 minutes max. Don’t let a 5-marker eat into your time for the rest of the paper.

Board examiners mark for structure, not length. A crisp 5-part answer beats a rambling page every time.

PYQ 3 — NEET 2021 Assertion-Reason

Assertion (A): A statement about digestion. Reason (R): An explanation of the mechanism.

First decide if A is true. Then decide if R is true. Only then ask if R explains A.

The four options are fixed: both true and R explains A; both true but R doesn’t explain A; A true R false; A false R true. Memorise them.

Assertion-reason is the easiest MCQ format once you have the 4-option template in your head.

PYQ 4 — CBSE 2024 Short Answer

Differentiate between two related terms in digestion. (3 marks)

Two columns, three rows minimum. Don’t write paragraphs for “differentiate” questions.

One example per term anchors the answer and earns the third mark.

Tables save time and earn full marks. Use them for every “differentiate” or “distinguish” question.

The weightage of Digestion in NEET has averaged 4–6 marks per paper over the last five years. PYQ patterns change less than you’d think.

How to Use These PYQs

Solve them closed-book first. Check your answer. Note mistakes. Revisit after a week. That spaced-repetition loop is what turns PYQ practice into exam marks.
